Dr. Schiffman is journalist and educator. Between 2012 and 2021, he was a faculty member in the Communication Department of Georgia College & State University, first as an assistant professor and later as a tenured associate professor. Previously, he served as Chief Copy Editor at CNN International, where he was involved in editorial decision making, network style, hiring, and training. Prior to joining CNN, Dr. Schiffman was a staff correspondent for The Wall Street Journal in Atlanta and The Asian Wall Street Journal in Hong Kong, Seoul, and Beijing. As a correspondent in Beijing between 1986 and 1988, Dr. Schiffman reported extensively on Chinese economic reforms, the role of foreign investment, and Chinese politics and culture at a time of rapid change and turmoil. Dr. Schiffman speaks Mandarin Chinese. He earned a Ph.D. in Communication at Georgia State University in May 2012 and is the editor of China Currents, the online journal of the China Research Center.
