The Confucius Institute in Atlanta to officially open

The Confucius Institute in Atlanta is a partnership between Emory University, Atlanta Public Schools, and Nanjing University with the sponsorship of Hanban, the Office of Chinese Language Council International. The Institute’s mission is to promote understanding of Chinese language and culture in the metropolitan Atlanta area through courses, conferences, and cultural workshops and events. The Institute will also help strengthen Chinese language instruction in the Atlanta Public Schools through teacher training and curriculum development.

The opening ceremony of the Confucius Institute will be held March 19, 2008, at Sammey E. Coan Middle School at 2:00 p.m.
