Dr. Hongmei Li is an Assistant Professor of Communications at Georgia State University. Her research focuses on globalization, consumer culture, identity, gender and sexuality, public diplomacy and culture of the Internet, with an emphasis on Contemporary China in particular and Asian countries in general. Her dissertation investigated the rise of advertising as a profession in China over the last few decades. She earned her B.A. from Peking University, and her M.A and Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. Before she came to the U.S. to pursue her graduate studies in 2000, she had worked in a Chinese publishing house as an editor and a copyright manager for three years. From 2008 until 2010 she held a Gerbner Postdoctoral Fellowship from Annenberg School for Communication, University of Pennsylvania. She is currently working on a book about advertising in China.
