“Beyond Diplomacy: Opportunities for U.S.-China Cooperation on Climate Change”
From transforming our energy systems to protecting human health to changing our agricultural practices, climate change presents a host of challenges that are both daunting and complex. Yet these challenges also present a unique opportunity for collaboration, innovation, and learning.
The U.S. and China, the world’s largest emitters of greenhouse gases (GHG), face similar trials that require innovative solutions. By working together to respond and adapt to climate change, the two countries have the potential to advance not only toward their GHG reduction goals but also to improve their relations and mutual understanding. The collaborative efforts of Emory and Nanjing Universities on climate research are representative of the potential for bilateral action and cooperation.
