Dr. Hanchao Lu joins the China Research Center:

Dr. Lu earned his PhD in History at the University of California, Los Angeles and now is Professor of History in the School of History, Technology, and Society at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Professor Lu specializes in industrialization and urbanization in China. He served as the president of the Chinese Historians in the United States (1999-2001) and a visiting fellow of the East Asian Institute, Singapore (2000-01). He is an honorary Senior Research Professor at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and the editor of a ten-volume series on Culture and Customs in Asia (Greenwood). His articles appear in major journals such as the Journal of Asian Studies, Modern China, and Pacific Affairs. His recent publications include the prize-wining book, Beyond the Neon Lights: Everyday Shanghai in the Early Twentieth Century (1999), and Modernity and Cultural Identity in Taiwan (ed., 2001). His current research project is rural-urban disparity and the floating population in China.
