China Breakfast Briefing 2015

Back by popular demand, the China Research Center, the Confucius Institute at GSU and Georgia China Alliance will again co-organize a breakfast briefing to discuss new developments in China, hosted by the GSU J. Mack Robinson College of Business.  A panel of experts will share their views on recent developments in business, politics, society and the economy.

Speakers:

Mr. Juan R. Figuereo, CFO, NII Holdings:  Juan has been involved with China at various levels throughout his career, including, as head of M&A for Walmart, leading what at the time was the largest acquisition in the Chinese retail industry, as CFO of Newell Rubbermaid, and, most recently as CFO of NII Holdings, which partnered with the leading Chinese manufacturer of wireless telecommunications equipment and the China Development Bank to launch next generation mobile networks in Mexico and South America.

Dr. Penelope Prime, Director, China Research Center and Professor, Georgia State University: Dr. Prime is a professor in the Institute of International Business at the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University and Director of the China Research Center. She has more than 30 years of experience studying and working within Chinese culture and the dynamic Chinese economy. Her research focuses on China’s economic transition and business environment, focusing most recently on innovation and e-commerce.

Dr. Andrew Wedeman, Professor, Georgia State University: Andrew Wedeman received his doctorate in Political Science from UCLA and is a Professor of Political Science at Georgia State University. Prior to this appointment, he was a Professor of Political Science at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He has held posts as a visiting Research Professor at Beijing University, a visiting Associate Professor of Political Science at the Johns Hopkins Nanjing University Center for Sino-American Studies, and a Fulbright Research Professor at Taiwan National University. His current research focuses on the interaction of corruption, unrest, and repression in China.

Dr. Jun Liu, Director, Confucius Institute and Associate Provost for International Initiatives, Georgia State University: Dr. Jun Liu is the Director of the Confucius Institute and the Associate Provost for International Initiatives at Georgia State University. Prior to this position, Liu was Professor and Head of the English Department, Director of the Confucius Institute, and Assistant Vice-Provost for Global Initiatives at the University of Arizona. Liu has also held multiple leadership roles as an international educator. He served as Past President of TESOL International, Vice President of International Society of Chinese Language Teaching, and Senior Advisor to the Office of the Chinese Language Council International.
